Exam Proctoring
Not all courses will include tests. Alternatives to tests might include: papers, discussion groups, homework assignments, portfolios, and/or projects.
ECU faculty have access to both Respondus LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor and receive full support for implementing them in their courses to ensure secure online testing.
Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure, custom browser that locks the testing environment in Canvas. It supports academic integrity by requiring full screen mode, restricting navigation, blocking other websites and applications, and disabling printing, copying, and screen capturing until an exam is submitted. Students remain locked in the assessment until they submit it, unless the instructor allows exceptions. Overall, LockDown Browser helps prevent access to external resources and reduces test-taking issues for online exams.
Respondus Monitor is a software-based video proctoring service that can be used when students take a test in Canvas. Respondus Monitor tracks and records suspicious behavior such as using a secondary device, calculator, textbook or receiving assistance from other students. Respondus Monitor creates a flagged and time-stamped video for the instructor to review.
